TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Traffic Director at the Metro Jaya Police Chief Commissioner Latif Usman claimed that this is not the time to implement emissions test ticketing in Jakarta. According to him, the residents will need more time to be informed and understand deeper about the importance of emissions tests.
"After examining the result of conducting the emissions test ticketing for a day, we concluded that this is not the appropriate time. We will change the pattern again," he said on Thursday, November 2 as quoted by Antara.
Latif explained that the police will not enforce the law without considering the conditions of the residents and public awareness regarding the emissions test policy. During the raid on November 1, Latif said, it was found that the majority of the residents were not aware of the role of the emissions tests.
Therefore, the police will focus its efforts on conducting socialization on emissions tests instead of emissions test ticketing. "Starting today (Thursday), after our evaluation on Wednesday, we will intensify the education and socialization process for the public regarding emissions test," Latif said. "So, no more emissions test ticketing."
According to Latif, halting the raid after a day is not a problem. The residents, Latif added, also complained about the program.
Earlier in September, the police also tried to implement emissions test ticketing before halting it in the same month. Police also reasoned that there were a lot of negative sentiments surrounding the policy.
