TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The new state capital, or IKN is planning to have an international school, marked by its groundbreaking yesterday, led by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.
The new international school will be called Nusantara Intercultural School or NIS and is set to be developed at IKN's central core of the governmental area. The school will be developed by Jakarta International School (JIS), the private international school network in Jakarta.
"By the grace of God, I officially inaugurate the groundbreaking of Nusantara International School this afternoon," Jokowi said on Wednesday.
According to Jokowi, the development of this school will answer the questions concerning the quality of education in IKN by some people intending to move to the new state capital. "So don't hesitate to move here," he said.
Jokowi also expressed his appreciation to JIS for developing IKN's first international school. This school, Jokowi added, is proof of the government's commitment to providing supporting facilities in IKN, including in the education sector.
With NIS, Jokowi hoped that JIS would be able to provide quality education in Nusantara with an international standard for residents of IKN who come from various backgrounds, countries, and regions.
In addition to this international school, the government and private entities will revitalize several schools in IKN to provide better education. At least six elementary schools will be improved, including SD Negeri 020 in Sepaku District.
