TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will inaugurate the Nusantara State Capital or IKN VVIP Airport in East Kalimantan with a groundbreaking ceremony today, Nov. 1. The groundbreaking will be held until Friday, in line with other projects.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi along with several architects had earlier visited the project site in North Penajam Paser Regency on October 3, 2023. The architects are Yori Antar, Adi Purnomo (Mamo), and Reza Wahjudi (Bobos).
Budi said they visited the site to conduct observation and ensure that the project would be in line with the big concept of the new capital city, which is nature-oriented and environmentally friendly.
We will conserve existing forests and cut down as few trees as possible,” Budi Karya said in a press statement as quoted on Wednesday. He also said the design of the airport would combine elements of local wisdom, modernity, and environmental friendliness.
Architect Yori Antar added that the airport building would highlight Kalimantan culture in a modern way. “So we will bring the existing traditions and culture into the present and the future,” he said.
Another architect, Adi Purnomo alias Mamo, said that green building principles would be applied to the airport, resembling a typical Kalimantan longhouse with an open roof to allow wind and light into the building area. “This will be more energy efficient than a regular terminal,” Momo said.
The VVIP Airport in IKN is one of 10 projects set to begin this year. Head of the IKN Authority, Bambang Susantono, said the projects would be financed by both the state budget or APBN and the private sector.
“The projects include hospitals; shopping malls integrated with hotels and apartments; several government offices; an orangutan sanctuary island; and schools consisting of state and international schools,” Bambang said in a press statement today.
The estimated investment value of the projects reached Rp12.5 trillion. The government has thus far inaugurated a project worth Rp23 trillion in IKN. Bambang said this was not only a sign of development growth but also of economic growth.
“This proves the high interest and trust of private investors and the government in IKN,” said Bambang.
