TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Foreign Ministry continues to cooperate with the Indonesian Embassies in Amman, Cairo, and Beirut to monitor the situation in Palestine and prepare a contingency plan, including evacuation.
According to the latest data, there are 45 Indonesian nationals in Palestine with 5 residing in Gaza and 35 residing in West Bank. Additionally, there are 230 Indonesian nationals embarking on religious tourism across Israel. Until this article is published, no Indonesian nationals have fallen victim to the attacks in Gaza on October 7.
The ministry is urging Indonesian nationals in Palestine and Israel to stay vigilant and remain in contact with Indonesian envoys. The Foreign Ministry of Indonesia also recommends its citizens postpone any plans to visit both Palestine and Israel. For emergencies, Indonesian nationals may contact the hotline for the Indonesian Embassy in Amman at +962 7 7915 0407, the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo at +201022229989, and the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut at +9613199493.
On October 7, the resistant group Hamas established an attack on Israelian cities in what was dubbed as the deadliest attack since the Yom Kippur war 50 years prior. In retaliation, Israel fired airstrikes on Palestinian homes, tunnels, mosques, and the residence of Hamas officials in Gaza. Israel's retaliation killed more than 400 people, including 20 children, as decreed by PM Benjamin Nenyatahu.
The recent attack on October 7 in the Gaza Strip was a culmination of tension post-blockade of entry and exit points in Palestine.
PM Nenyatahu declared war on Palestine after the attack. Meanwhile, Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Muhammad Iqbal stressed that the root cause of this conflict is Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory. The occupation, he said, must be resolved, in accordance with the parameters established by the UN.
