Jokowi: 22 Countries Halt Food Export

29 September 2023 22:32 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo lamented the decision of several countries to halt their food export. According to Jokowi, this caused the food prices in Indonesia to rise.

"A lot of countries have halted their food exports. Wheat, rice, sugar, [the export] has been halted," said Jokowi during a meeting on Friday, September 29, 2023.

Jokowi mentioned that 22 countries including Uganda, Russia, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Myanmar stopped their food export, including rice. This, Jokowi added, will increase the prices of food in Indonesia.

President Jokowi is currently attending the national working meeting of his party, PDIP. The meeting will continue until October 1, 2023, at JiExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.

In his opening remarks, Jokowi stated that Indonesia must have a tactical vision and detailed plan to face food challenges in five to ten years. He claimed to have planned 61 dams next year, without providing detailed information.

According to the president, food is not an easy challenge to solve due to real threats such as climate change and rising geopolitical tension.
