Lawmaker Talks of ITE Law Revision as DPR's YouTube Channel Hacked

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The YouTube channel of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) has been hacked and featured online gambling since Wednesday morning, September 6. The House’s Member of Commission I from the Golkar faction, Christina Aryani, opined that this is because of the weak protection system.
“It's a shame, this can be interpreted that the DPR’s account protection is still very weak and needs to be improved,” Christine said in a written statement, on Wednesday, September 6.
In addition to account security, Christina also addressed the viewpoint of the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo). She said that Commission I and the Kominfo Ministry discussed the specific issue of online gambling in the Revision of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE Law) last Monday.
During the meeting, Commission I requested regulations mandating platforms to possess a self-filtering system. However, Christina observed that the ministry seems reluctant to create this policy.
“In the ITE Law revision, platforms or electronic service providers (PSE) may be required to perform self-filtering of content/information or electronic documents containing gambling,” she said. “[But, ] Kominfo is reluctant.”
According to Christina, mandatory self-filtering could help ease the government's work in eradicating rampant online gambling sites.
Christina also recalled that the former Kominfo Minister Rudiantara had implemented this self-filtering system during his tenure for content or information related to radicalism.
