TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Minister of Research, Technology and High Education Mohamad Nasir said that only 0.09 percent of Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is allocated for research.
"It’s only 0.09 percent, lower than Thailand and Malaysia," he said in Surabaya on Saturday.
"The number of researchers in Indonesia based on our date is around 250 people out of 1 million people, which means that the number of researchers is too small for the total population of Indonesia that is close to 240 million people,” Nasir said.
The number of researchers in Indonesia registered at LIPI is 8,000 people and 16,000 researches work at universities, while the number of researchers working for private institutions could not be confirmed yet.
