TEMPO.CO, Jayapura - Ali Mangalik (31) was shot dead in Puncak Jaya sub-district, Papua by a group of armed men yesterday at 12.06 Eastern Indonesian Time. The victim died with several shot wounds.
"It’s true. We haven’t found the shooters and no idea which groups they are from. For the time being, we consider it's a crime," Head of Public Division of Papua Police, Adj. Sr. Commr. Sulistiyo Pudjo Hartono said.
The shooting might have been done to disrupt security in Puncak Jaya, which has been stable in the past month, according Sulistyo. "We continue to hunt down the shooters. When they're arrested, they will be charged with criminal offences," he said.
From the information Tempo gathered, the incident began when 49 cars left from Mulia at 09:00 local Time, heading to Wamena, Jayawijaya sub-district. The cars carried locals and seven members of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI).
At around 12.06 noon, a car carrying the goods of the passengers was suddenly blockaded and fired. Because of the incident, the driver, Ali, was dead.
At around 12.30, six members of the Kolome Yonif 751 post arrived at the scene and evacuated the victim, who was then carried to the Kolome post. "It’s a crime. It’s a murder," Sulistiyo said.
In October last year, a member of the TNI was also shot dead in Tingginambut.
