TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 9.7 people is predicted to leave the capital city for homecoming during the Moslem celebration of Eid al-Fitr in early August. The figure is 8.6 percent higher than last year's number of people going on homecoming at 9 million.
The Jakarta Transportation Board director Udar Pristono estimated that most of the people going back to their hometown will be using private vehicles. "Only 2.5 million people will be using public transportation," said Pristono during the Regional Head Communication Forum (Forkopimda) meeting at the City Hall on Monday, July 15. The meeting discussed preparation for the Eid al-Fitr celebration which covered transportation, price monitoring, security, and citizenship.
In order to ensure security of people going on homecoming, the Transportation Board will establish four types of booth in bus stations used as hubs for the event. The booths will provide road worthiness tests, health care, integrated security, and provide urine tests for intercity bus drivers.
