TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi appreciated the two Indonesian Islamic organizations Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah for their Zayed Award for Human Fraternity from the UAE government.
"This is an extraordinary pride for us, not only for the NU and Muhammadiyah family but also for Indonesians overall. Especially since this was the first time they awarded Asian-based organizations," he said on Monday evening.
Zayed Award was held in UAE on Friday. This award was a tribute to UAE founder, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The two biggest Islamic organizations in Indonesia were considered exerting extraordinary efforts to tackle complex social threats. Additionally, NU and Muhammadiyah have promoted international peace and grassroots solidarity.
Secretary General of Zayed Award Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam said that the receiver of the awards has upheld a vision towards world peace.
Meanwhile, Jokwi said the awards for NU and Muhammadiyah will further motivate and inspire Indonesia to maintain its humanity, tolerance, and peace values.
Zayed Award for Human Fraternity was also awarded to Sir Magdi Yacoub, the founder of the Egyptian Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation and the Chain of Hope organization in the UK.
