Prabowo-Gibran Winning Team: 'Gibran Rakabuming is Reserved, But Willing to Listen'

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The deputy leader of the Prabowo-Gibran winning team, Afriansyah Noor, explained the reasoning behind Gibran Rakabuming's seeming lack of presence in several public discussion events despite his performance during the recent vice presidential debate.

According to the man nicknamed Ferry, Gibran is a reserved person. However, he is willing to listen. "This is the figure I have chosen as the vice presidential candidate," he said when called on Tuesday.

Ferry said that during his capacity as the Vice Minister of Manpower, he attended events with the Solo Mayor twice, where Gibran refused to deliver his opening remarks.

That unwillingness, Ferry believed, showed how Gibran is as a leader. Despite his silence, Gibran is willing to listen to criticism and recommendations, according to Ferry. "I appreciate that," he added.

Earlier, INDEF released its analysis on the vice presidential debate held by the General Elections Commission or KPU last Friday, Dec. 22. INDEF analyzed social media conversation regarding the perceived performance of the three vice presidential candidates.

"Netizen's assessment could be summarized into one word each, Mahfud Md was Experienced, Gibran was Outstanding, and Cak Imin (Muhaimin) was Blunder-Prone," wrote INDEF in a statement received by Tempo on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023.

In the statement, INDEF reported to have used a Big Data approach, claiming that its data was buzzer-free. The analysis, it said, converted three aspects, namely conversation exposure, sentiment, and the conversation topics.

The data showed that Gibran Rakabuming received the highest positive sentiment on the social media platform X with 77 percent while Mahfud Md dominated YouTube with 71 percent.

The period of data collection started on Dec. 22, 2023, at 07:00-09:50 p.m. local time. The research gathered 23,424 conversations from 17,125 X accounts. The conversation peaked at around 08:00 p.m. local time, INDEF reported.
