TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ahead of the New Year 2024, the National Logistics Agency or Bulog Tangerang reported a sugar crisis in the regency.
The head of Bulog Tangerang Omar Syarif said that his side is cooperating with several sugar suppliers. "There are only vegetable oil, flour, and premium rice in our warehouses right now," he said on Tuesday.
Omar was hesitant to explain in detail the stock of available food materials in Bulog Tangerang's warehouse at the time. However, he said that the agency is currently carrying out efforts to tackle the crisis.
"The dwindling of sugar stock is caused by its distribution through market operations and cheap bazaar," he said.
Diverging from sugar, the rice stock in Tangerang is still safe, according to Omar. The rice stock in Bulog's warehouses reached 14,000 tons and will be increased along with the arrival of imported rice.
"We will guarantee rice availability for citizens during the Christmas and New Year holidays," he said.
Rice prices in the market have been decreasing, Omar added. Medium rice prices almost reached normal prices at Rp10,000 per kilogram. Meanwhile, premium rice is priced at around Rp14,000 per kilogram. "In line with market mechanism considering the demand," he concluded.
