Jakarta Health Office Confirms Death of 2 COVID-19 Positive Patients

11 December 2023 12:56 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Health Office confirmed two deaths of COVID-19 positive cases in December 2023.

"These cases were found after no COVID-19 deaths for two consecutive months in October and November in Jakarta," said the Head of Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Immunization Division Ngabila Salma on Monday, Dec. 11.

The two COVID-19-positive deaths occurred to two elderly women patients. The first one was an 81-year-old woman with comorbid hypertension. She had been vaccinated up to the third dose.

Meanwhile, the other one was a 91-year-old patient with comorbid of stroke, and heart failure, and had not been vaccinated.

According to Ngabila, there have been 80 COVID-19-positive cases from Nov. 27 to Dec. 3, 2023, in Jakarta. Around 9 percent of these cases were of light symptoms, and 10 percent were mild inpatients.

Ngabila explained that the COVID-19 spread in Jakarta is still manageable. "Mainly [variant] EG.4 and EG.5 were found in Jakarta, with 14 cases each," she added.

COVID-19 has been declared endemic in Indonesia since June 2023, meaning, health responsibility fell on each individual. The government, she said, only gives recommendations and health facilities.

There is yet a need to implement another activity limitation, however, the government strongly urges people to wear a mask, conduct immunization, and complete four doses of COVID-19 vaccination.

Jakarta Health Office also prioritizes vulnerable groups, including people aged 50 years and older, and people with comorbid hypertension, diabetes, stroke, health issues, cancer, HIV, and others to complete their vaccine doses.

Meanwhile, in Jakarta, COVID-19 vaccination can be done in public health facilities and:

1. Tarakan Hospital in Central Jakarta on Monday to Saturday from 08:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

2. PPKP Clinic of Jakarta City Hall on Monday to Friday from 01:00 p.m. to 04:00 p.m.

3. Tanjung Priok Port Health Clinic on Monday to Friday from 08:00 a.m. to 03:00 p.m.
