Apindo Responds to Calls for Israeli Products Boycott

28 November 2023 22:50 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association (Apindo) chairperson Shinta Kamdani has spoken up about the widespread calls for a boycott of Israeli products. She said Apindo was continuing to collect data from its members. “Just wait for our statement on the boycott,” she said at the Four Season Hotel, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, November 28.

Shinta explained that all elements must be aware that the list of products affiliated with Israel that currently circulating in the community is a hoax. She underlined that the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has never issued such a list.

“The funniest thing is that products made in Indonesia are said to be related to Israeli products, while it has nothing to do with it at all,” she said, questioning where the list came from.

Shinta lamented that the spread of this misinformation could ultimately affect product sales. She is also concerned that it could lead to layoffs.

In response, Shinta claimed that Apindo is still seeking data from each company to clarify the widely discussed issue of links between their products and Israel. “This issue is detrimental to us.”

She also emphasized that Apindo stands with Palestine, which is under relentless attack by Israel. Until now, Apindo has not yet found any products originating from Israel. “This needs to be clarified,” she said.

Previously, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) issued its latest edict, or Fatwa No. 83 of 2023 concerning the law on support for Palestine. The MUI’sFatwa Commission suggests that Muslims avoid transactions in products linked to Israel or supporting Israeli aggression in Palestine.
