TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Asian Trade, Tourism and Economics Council (ATEC) and Association of Indonesian Retailers and Shopping Center Tenants (Hippindo) held an investment forum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to encourage investment into Indonesia while strengthening bilateral relations.

The investment forum, titled "The Indonesia B2B2G Investment Forum," was held on Friday (Nov 25) in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Malaysia, the Government Goods/Services Procurement Policy Institute (LKPP), the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN), and the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs.

"We initiated this Investment Forum (Series 1) in Malaysia to make Indonesia a production base with local content to meet the needs of Indonesia's large domestic market and also for exports," ATEC and Hippindo Chairman, Budihardjo Iduansjah, stated in Jakarta, Monday.

The forum was attended by over 100 participants comprising Malaysian entrepreneurs and the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade).

The event aims to support the National Movement Proud with Made in Indonesia; Campaign to Increase the Use of Domestic Production (P3DN) at the Domestic Component Level (TKDN); encourage investment into Indonesia; joint ventures with SMEs and local brands, as well as encouraging investment in IKN Nusantara.

Iduansjah affirmed that the investment forum was an opportunity for Malaysian investors to open factories in Indonesia. In this way, the goods produced can be included in the LKPP e-catalog following the obligation to purchase domestic products being promoted by the government.

Iduansjah also expressed optimism that the partnership between Indonesia and Malaysia would become closer to open opportunities for products from both countries to enter the ASEAN and global markets.

"We hope that the Investment Forum (Series 1) in Malaysia can be the first step in the product supply chain from Indonesia and Malaysia to ASEAN and the world. In the future, we will also hold an Investment Forum Series in China, Korea, Japan, and several other producing countries," he remarked.

He affirmed that Malaysian investors also held a meeting with the Ministry to follow up on partnership or joint venture collaboration, so that SME products produced could be sold in the Indonesian market and could even be exported to ASEAN and global markets.

"This will, of course, also require significant investment in infrastructure, including roads, ports, warehouses, and airports," Iduansjah stated.

Apart from investment forums to establish cooperation between Indonesia and Malaysia, ATEC and Hippindo also initiated food security cooperation between both countries, Indonesian Brands Go Global as well as special economic zones for SMEs, showrooms for local brands and products for facilitating SMEs in improving better.
