TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Denpasar warned fishermen and marine tourists of high waves in the Bali-Java and Bali-Lombok sea lanes on September 7 and 8, 2023. The Head of BMKG Denpasar Cahyo Nugroho mentioned that the waves could reach 4 meters in height.
Meanwhile, BMKG asked the public to be alert for high waves in the south of Bali Straits and Lombok Straits, the south of Badung Straits, and the south of Bali waters.
Badung Straits is the sea lane from inland Bali, including Sanur Denpasar, and Kusamba, Klungkung to Nusa Penida Island in Klungkung. In addition, Badung Straits is the sea lane from Benoa Harbor to several cities in East Indonesia, as well as marine tourism spots.
The waves at the Bali Sea bordering the Buleleng Regency at the north of Bali is estimated to reach 2.5 meters high.
The agency also estimated that the average wind speed in Bali reached 37 kilometers per hour or around 20 knots from east to south.
According to BMKG, the wind speed and high waves are a high risk to sailing. A wind speed of more than 15 knots with more than 1.25 meters high wave could risk fishing vessels.
BMKG also urged the public to observe the weather forecasts and ocean waves through balai3.denpasar.bmkg.go.id, @bmkgbali on Instagram, @bbmkg3 on Twitter/X, and BBMKG Wilayah III Denpasar on Facebook.
