Jakarta Tops 2017 Indonesia Democracy Index

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta provincial government managed to rank the highest in the 2017 Indonesia Democracy Index (IDI), which according to Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Kecuk Suhariyanto, is one out of four provinces that performed impressively. 

“Out of 34 provinces, there are only four scoring over 80 points in Indonesia Democracy Index excellent category,” said Kecuk at the Grand Sahid Hotel in Central Jakarta today, December 13, 2018.

According to the BPS, Jakarta’s civil freedom scored 87.73, political rights index at 80.06, and the index of democratic agencies scored 87.12.

Following Jakarta, three other high-scoring provinces in order are; Yogyakarta, North Kalimantan, and Bangka Belitung Islands. He revealed that no province in Indonesia scored below 60 points.

“In other words, no province across Indonesia scored a bad IDI,” said Kecuk.

IDI is a statistical scoring system that ranks the development of Indonesia’s democracy which is based on three components, 11 variables, and 28 indicators. The data are compiled through qualitative information that is converted into numbers.
