TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said he would maintain freedom of expression, including freedom for journalists, in Jakarta.
“Freedom of expression, freedom for journalists. In Jakarta, Thank God, we will maintain it as well as possible,” said Anies Baswedan at Grand Sahid Hotel, Central Jakarta, Thursday, December 13.
Today, Anies attended the award ceremony and the launch of the 2017 Indonesian Democracy Index (IDI) book, at the Grand Sahid Hotel, Central Jakarta. The Jakarta administration achieved the highest index points and defeated 33 other provinces in Indonesia.
A researcher from Paramadina University, Abdul Malik Gismar who is also a member of the 2017 IDI drafting expert team, told Anies that the problem that often appears is freedom of expression. The Jakarta administration, according to Anies, is trying to minimize that problem.
Anies Baswedan thanked the Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security Affairs Wiranto and the reviewer team for the award for the Jakarta administration.
According to Anies Baswedan, Jakarta achieved the civil liberties index at 87.73 points; political rights index at 80.06; and index of democratic institutions at 87.12.
“It shows the maturity of the people of Jakarta in democracy,” said Anies Baswedan.
