OJK Urges Victims of Illegal Online Loans to File Police Reports

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) appealed to people who have problems with online loans to report to the police. OJK official said that according to the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH), a number of fintech lenders are violating ethics, and those actions can be categorized as criminal acts.
"We hope victims will also file police reports, because what happens to them are acts of intimidation, terror, and those are acts of crime," Tongam L, Tobing, head of the OJK's Investment Alert Task Force, said in a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, December 12.

Menurut OJK, pengaduan masyarakat terkait pinjaman online are ainly divided into two categories. The first is borrowers inability to pay back their loans on time, which leads to higher interests and debt-collecting practices. The second is about customers data privacy and complaints about debt-collecting methods.
The OJK has ceased the operations of 404 unregistered online lenders as well as terminated their websites and apps.
"We are still researching and monitoring several websites and applications. And we found that there are still unregistered fintech activities," he said.
