Saudi Ambassador`s Blunder Tweet Responded by Indonesian Govt

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry has summoned Saudi Arabia`s Deputy Ambassador on Monday following the tweet from Saudi’s ambassador Osamah Muhammad Al-Suaibi that poorly attempted to link both the 212 reunion rally and the recent Tawheed flag burning incident.

“The Saudi Ambassador’s way of conveying his statement is ethically not aligned with the principles of a diplomatic relation,” said Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Spokesman Armanatha Nasir to Tempo today.

Osamah was officially summoned on Monday, December 3 after the ambassador tweeted a statement that claims that the 212 reunion rally is the action of millions of Muslims reacting to the burning of a flag bearing the tawhid text by a deviant organization. The organization is believed to refer to Nahdalatul Ulama (NU).

NU Chairman Said Aqil Siradj said that his organization was deeply offended by Osamah’s tweet, moreover, considering the fact that the 212 event is a large gathering and is not related to the flag burning incident.

“This is clearly [Osamah’s] blunder where he clearly does not understand the ethics of diplomacy to not interfere with another country’s affairs,” Said asserted.

Said maintained that the incident had been resolved by police and that the Indonesian government must publically acknowledge that the flag burning incident is not essentially related to the Tawheed flag, but is the burning of that represented the disbanded radical group Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI).
