TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Center for Fish Quarantine, Quality Control and Safety of Fisheries Products (BBKIPM) together with Customs and Excise managed to foil the attempt of smuggling 80 living crabs from China through the Soekarno Hatta Airport. The incident was revealed on Wednesday, November 28, at around 11:20 p.m. by the airport officers who conducted an inspection at the Terminal 3 Arrival, Soekarno Hatta, Cengkareng, West Java.
“The officers at Terminal 3 Arrival, Soekarno Hatta Airport, succeeded in foiling the attempt to smuggle live crabs (Eriocheir sinensis) or Chinese mitten crabs without being equipped with a required document from the country of origin,” Customs Public Relations Sub-directorate Deni Surjantoro told Tempo, Thursday, November 29.
Based on the results of the examination, it was found that the live crabs were brought and owned by Yu Chenglong, a Chinese citizen. Chenglong was identified using an E24379745 passport and flying with the China Airlines CI671.
From the flight data, it is known that the aircraft was departed from Kaohsiung City to Hong Kong on Wednesday, November 28, at around 2 p.m. local time. From Hong Kong, the aircraft then departed to Jakarta at around 3 p.m., on Thursday, November 29. Chenglong carried the crabs with a black suitcase.
