TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Umra pilgrims who became victims of the First Travel scam continue to seek justice, demanding their money be returned or used to embark them on the pilgrimage. Their lawyer Riesqi Rahmadiansyah aske them to come to the Supreme Court (MA) to inquire about their case.
Riesqi told Tempo on Monday said that they want to seek clarity about the fate of their case.
According to Riesqi, the First Travel victims' plan is to meet with Supreme Court justice Muhammad Hatta Ali and other officials including the court's chief of Criminal Chamber and the judge in charge of First Travel's money laundering case.
“We want [First Travel's] asset that will be confiscated is used to fly the pilgrims—not taken by the state," he said.
On May 30 during the verdict hearing, chief judge Sobandi declared First Travel's Umra managers Andika Surachman, Anniesa Hasibuan, and Kiki Hasibuan guilty of money laundering. Andika was sentenced to 20 years in prison, Anniesa 18 years, and Kiki 15 years.
The three people are declared guilty scamming 63,310 prospective pilgrims, causing them a total loss of Rp905 billion.
