TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has outlined two keys to generate human resources as the strongest power of Indonesia toward acceleration of economic growth and welfare. The keys are through the revitalization of the education system and enhancement of worker’s and jobseeker’s skill.

Jokowi, during a closed meeting on human resources development for economic growth acceleration in Bogor Palace in West Java, Wednesday, November 21, hoped vocational education would be advanced, “in line with industry demands and technology development.”

The president claimed his administration has begun the revitalization program and adjusted the vocational education system, either on the curriculum or the competency. However, it has not been carried out massively that Jokowi expected it could be completely set.

The second key is improving skills of job seekers and workers through vocational education and certification. “I demand this [program] to be profoundly started.”

Jokowi mentioned the Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Ministry has held training on vocational education and issued professional certifications for construction workers yet on the lack of number.

The program, Jokowi expected, would involve the business and education sector, including boarding schools. “Thus, we hope students will not only obtain religious study but certain skills.”

Attending the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, Education Minister Muhadjir Effendy, Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, Tourism Minister Arief Yahya, and Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto.

In addition, Communications and Informatics Minister Rudiantara, Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo, Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman, Village Minister Eko Putro Sandjojo, Administrative Reform and Reform of the Bureaucracy Minister Syafruddin, Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi, Maritime and Fisheries Affairs Susi Pudjiastuti, Research and Technology and Higher Education Minister M. Nasir, among others, were also seen joining the session.
