Police: Photo of Police Officers Supporting Prabowo Hoax

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police have confirmed that a photo of police officers who allegedly support the Prabowo-Sandiaga ticket in the 2019 presidential election is a hoax. 

The National Police's head of Public Information Bureau, Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo, said the event displayed in the photo was a religious one.

“It was the 'Increase Faith and Piety' event in the East Java Police,” said Dedi at the National Police headquarters, South Jakarta, on Monday, November 19.

According to Dedi, the police were tracing the first uploader of the hoax photo. The National Police have also collaborated with the Ministry of Communication and Information to deactivate the uploader's account.

On November 12, the photo was uploaded by a Facebook account, saying:

“WE THE POLICE ARE READY TO VOTE FOR PRABOWO-SANDI IN THE 2019 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN STATE SECURITY. HOW ABOUT YOU PRABOWO-SANDI SUPPORTERS? ARE YOU READY TO VOTE FOR THE NUMBER 02 IN ORDER TO CHANGE?”
