TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communications and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo) acting public information head Ferdinandus Setu said that First Media`s revoked 2.3 GHz frequency permit will not affect its cable TV and FastNet internet services.
He reasoned that the two main services in First Media do not utilize the 2.3 GHz frequency. However, he explained that it will affect the broadband mobile service known as ‘Bolt’.
“The mobile broadband is in the form of a product known as Bolt, which will automatically be halted. Bolt is a joint effort by the company with PT Internux,” Ferdinandus explained today.
As of today, the Kominfo will issue a decree (SK) for the revocation of the 2.3 GHz frequency from three companies; PT First Media, PT Internux, and PT Jasnita Telekomindo.
He elaborates that the companies failed to pay its bills which is overdue on November 17 after it was delayed for two years.
According to the law, specifically stated in Article 34 of Law No. 36/1999 on the use of radio frequency spectrums and satellite orbits on telecommunication. It states that providers using the radio frequency spectrum for telecommunication must pay for the right to use a certain radio frequency spectrum.
However, First Media filed a state administration lawsuit (TUN) on November 14 against the Kominfo at the State Administrative Court (PTUN). The company argues that the company’s licensed Broadband Wireless Access 2,3Ghz is not linked to its services that are operated by PT Link Net Tbk (LINK).
