Ternate Prepares Kora-kora Festival to Greet Year-end Holidays

TEMPO.CO, Ternate - Ternate Culture and Tourism Agency head Samin Marsaoly said the region planned to hold the Kora-kora Festival in the end of December 2018. “In a bid to boost tourist arrivals in this city,” said Samin in Ternate, Saturday, November 10.
Various shows are slated to enliven the Kora-kora Festival, such as a parade of traditional boat kora-kora , rowing competition of traditional boats, fishing, and multiple art and culture performances.
Ternate city was renowned for its tourism destinations, starting from natural tourist sites, history, culinary, religions, and culture. Especially for historic sites, the head of the Indonesian Historian Community of NorthMaluku, Syahril Muhammad, viewed them as unique tourist spots. “Especially for cultural heritage related to the Ternate Sultanate.”

Ternate, he continued, had a local tradition dubbed Makan Kebun (eating garden), which was a dish package, such as cassava and banana that are cooked with coconut milk, popeda and Gohu Ikan cakalang in traditional seasonings.
The menu is usually complemented with guraka water, a typical drink of Ternate made of ginger, brown sugar, walnuts, milk, coffee, and various spices.
