Magnitude 5.3 Earthquake Hits Sangihe Islands, North Sulawesi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Geophysics, and Climatology Agency (BMKG) announced that the Sangihe Islands District in North Sulawesi was hit by a magnitude 5.3 earthquake this morning at 09:09 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
Geophysics Station Head of Data and Information Edward announced that the earthquake that has its epicenter just 21 kilometers off of the Sangihe Islands with its hypocenter at the depth of 10 kilometers.
“The earthquake does not have a tsunami potential,” said Edward.
The II MMI intensity earthquake was fairly noticeable and managed to shake objects that are light enough. The BMKG has coordinated its mitigation efforts with the North Sulawesi Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).
