TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Wearing a red jacket and an open face helmet, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo rode a customized green ‘street tracker’ escorted by a number of his presidential security detail (Paspampres) members who were on motorcycles too. The group rode together to visit the Pasar Anyar traditional market in Tangerang City.
The president’s arrival to the market was to personally monitor the prices of basic needs which has been the main talking point among presidential and vice presidential hopefuls of the upcoming 2019 presidential election (Pilpres).
President Jokowi is notably known as a motorcycle enthusiast, mainly for the custom motorcycles produced by local custom build shop Katros Garage headquartered in the area of Ciputat.
Prior to the green street tracker that he used for the visit to Pasar Anyar, which is based off a new Kawasaki W175, Jokowi had also purchased a custom chopper from the garage that was built from scratch.
Asked upon why he chose to ride a motorcycle for his trip to the Pasar Anyar market, President Jokowi casually responded; “I just wanted to test ride my new motorcycle, it has good acceleration, even though we did not go fast, we maintained our speed around 30 to 40 kilometers per hour,” said the President at the market on Sunday.
