TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The granddaughter of one of Indonesia’s prominent founding fathers Muhammad ‘Bung’ Hatta, Gustika Jusuf Hatta, objected the statement that likened vice presidential candidate Sandiaga Uno to Bung Hatta.
The statement was issued by the Prabowo – Sandiaga campaign team spokesman Dahnil Anzar in a campaign video ad for the candidates of the 2019 presidential election. In the video, Dahnil said that Sandiaga is the modern representation of Bung Hatta.
Through her Twitter account, Gustika tweeted “For someone with a short fuse like myself, having heard that my grandfather is being likened to Sandiaga Uno just makes me want to throw up. Every. Single. Time whenever there is a presidential election.” she tweeted on Wednesday, October 24.
In her series of tweets protesting against commoditizing her grandfather’s image, Gustika maintained that people should not liken Bung Hatta with anyone, even if that is done by someone who personally knew her grandfather, moreover by people who does not know Bung Hatta personally.
Gustika asserted she has been sickened by opportunistic groups of people who continue to politically commoditize Muhammad Hatta’s legacy whenever an election arises.
“I’m so done, every presidential election [Bung Hatta’s] name gets commoditized. It’s getting old @Dahnilanzar,” as she directly tweeted Prabowo – Sandiaga’s campaign spokesman.
Prabowo – Sandiaga Uno`s campaign ad that mentioned Bung Hatta was initially spread by PAN Deputy Secretary-General Faldo Maldini through Twitter on October 18.
