Indonesian President Jokowi (White shirt) and the Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan are seen checking up on the Athlete Guesthouse at Kemayoran for the Asian Paragames 2018 athletes.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed his concern regarding `sontoloyo` or ignorant politicians that intend to divide Indonesian society into two groups.

“I’ll just speak frankly, be mindful that there are good politicians but there are also ‘sontoloyo’ politicians [out there]. We must filter the good ones from the bad ones,” said the president in his opening speech, during the distribution of 5,000 land certificates in Jakarta today, Oct. 23, which was met with audiences' laughter.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, who was present at the event, responded to the president’s statement with a smile. The same can be said with numerous other State Officials who were present at the event.

Sontoloyo in the Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI) is listed as a form of curse word that is used to describe silliness, wrongful situations, and stupidity, that, in a political standpoint can be considered as political ignorance.

“Don’t be influenced by politicians that want to exploit our harmony [and differences] for a short-term gain,” said the President.

In the event, President Jokowi handed out 5,000 land certificates for South Jakarta residents.
