The location and audiences of the debate session, according to him, played an important role in the success of the event because it aimed for sharing ideas, instead of arguments that sparked polemics.
Sandiaga Uno considered the idea competition during the 2014 presidential election debate and the 2017 Jakarta election debate only sought the rating. Thus the situation potentially sparked discordance in the grass root.
Earlier, the idea to establish the election debate in campus was delivered by the National Campaign Agency Prabowo-Sandiaga spokesman, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, during a discussion in Gadjah Mada University.
The recommendation was then rejected by the General Election Commission (KPU) as it violated the KPU Decree No. 23/2018, noting that organizing committee, participants, and campaign team are prohibited to utilize state facilities, prayer, and education places for campaign acts.
