TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A recent phenomenon that captured public`s attention happened in Ancol beach where a myriad of jellyfishes swarmed the coastline at one of Jakarta`s popular beach destinations.
Taman Impian Jaya Ancol Spokeswoman Rika Lestari said that the emergence of jellyfishes is actually a normal occurrence, which she described as “a seasonal cycle” in a text message Tempo received today, October 17.
“Normally, you can find jellyfish at any other beaches,” Rika said.
However, since the phenomenon caused quite a surprise among the public, beach management have coordinated with the Indonesian Institute of Sciences’ (LIPI) oceanography research center by bringing samples of the jellyfish to LIPI for further studies.
Rika underlined that the jellyfish, despite the large number, will not pose any threat to visitors. Beach management have also prepared the lifeguards and clean-up teams upon netting the jellyfishes.
