TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said he did not want to interfere with the alleged bribery transaction reported by Indonesialeaks, which mentioned the National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian.

“I don’t want to interfere with the matters relating to the law. It’s a legal area,” the president said in Pondok Gede, Jakarta, Wednesday, October 10.

Jokowi was reluctant to answer when asked if he had confirmed to Tito. “It’s only an allegation,” he said. He reportedly met Tito Karnavian yesterday afternoon at the Bogor Palace.

The investigative platform Indonesialeaks, along with several media, revealed the destruction of the red bank book under the account of Serang for Noor IR.

The destruction was allegedly done by the two KPK investigators who were the active officers of the National Police, Chief Commissioner Roland Ronaldy and Commissioner Aaron.

The book is one of the evidence of a corruption case that ensnared the boss of CV Sumber Laut Perkasa Basuki Hariman and his subordinate Ng Fenny.

Both investigators tore up the 15 pages of the transaction record from the book. Both of them allegedly erase a number of recipients from the Basuki Hariman’s company. The incident was recorded on CCTV, in the 9th floor of the collaboration room of the KPK Building on April 7, 2017.

One of the names listed in the book was Tito Karnavian, who was posted as the Jakarta Police Chief at that time.

Based on the finding, a number of parties urged Tito Karnavian to resign. “The urges are normal,” said President Jokowi in response to the finding.
