TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Government asked the public to give them more time to reconstruct and rehabilitate Palu, Donggala, and other affected areas following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that hit Central Sulawesi.

“Take Aceh for example, the rehabilitation and reconstruction process took over five years for the area to run normally again,” said Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, The National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) on Thursday, October 4.

He explained that the reconstruction of Central Sulawesi would need an extensive amount of time and a big funding.

“We have yet calculated the magnitude of our loss caused by the natural disaster, let alone the budget for reconstruction. We are still focusing our efforts on the victims’ mitigation,” said Bambang.

However, Bambang Brodjonegoro said that the government plans to hold a meeting upon rehabilitating and reconstructing affected areas in Palu, which will be led directly by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
