Megawati Wants 2018 Asian Games Song for PDIP Campaign

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Megawati Sukarnoputri, chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), said the party is asking for permission to use the song "Meraih Bintang" as a campaign song for the 2019 President Election. The song, which means "Reaching for the Stars", is one of the official songs of the 2018 Asian Games, made popular by singer Via Vallen.

"I do not know whether we can use it or not. If we can, let's do that," Megawati said during an event in Jakarta, Thursday, September 20.

The official song of the 2018 Asian Games became quite popular after it was being sung during the Opening Ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, last August.

Meanwhile, PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said he interpreted Megawati's statement as a joke. "I think that Mega was just joking, because our election is indeed aimed at [making the public] happy," he said.
