TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government sent a letter of protest to Singapore regarding the marketing of Indonesian foreign workers through online marketplace Carousell.
The Manpower Ministry's director for foreign work placement, Soes Hindharno, said that the letter was sent through the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore, for their government to "investigate the case," she said.
Although the sales page had been taken down, Soes said further action must be taken.
"We're not satisfied if, by taking down the page, the case is considered solved. There need to be firm actions against the people who posted the advertisement," he said.
The Singaporean Ministry of Man Power is aware of and investigating a number of cases where foreign maids are being "marketed inappropriately" online, through a Carousell account named "maid.recruitment." The page, before being taken down, listed a number of domestic workers from Indonesia.
