TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Director of State-run railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Edi Sukamoro stated that the company is set to replace its use of conventional diesel fuel (solar) to biodiesel complying with the government’s B20 policy.
“We have summoned all of [the company’s locomotive and diesel-powered rail train suppliers] and have stated their readiness to utilize B20,” said Edi in Bandung on September 12.

According to Edi, the use of biodiesel has been effectively applied and said that their biodiesel is supplied from Pertamina, which KAI used its quota up to 280 million liters.
“The price of [the two fuels] is basically the same. The cost savings will come from Pertamina which does not need to import traditional fuel,” said Edi.
According to the analysis of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry (ESDM), if the B20 policy is greatly applied, the use of renewable energy would improve 15 percent in the fuel’s mixture.
