TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Youth and Sports Ministry was currently drafting a policy on rewards and punishments for teams who successfully reached or failed to meet the target at the 2018 Asian Games.

“We will give rewards as well as punishments for those team who fail to meet the target. We’re currently drafting the regulation,” said the ministry secretary Gatot S Dewa Broto in Jakarta, Tuesday, September 4.

According to him, the regulation was expected to instill honesty in each sport as well as encourage the spirits to reach the target.

“The point is, we want to teach each sport to be fair. The target is set based on the capability. Without reward and punishment, the management will act arbitrarily despite it is targetted to obtain gold, and fails,” Gatot said.

He mentioned a target shift on the athletic after a review on its capability. “At first, the athletic is targetted to get one gold medal, but they (PASI management) changed it to zero gold which is turned to be true, they get two silvers and one bronze,” Gatot explained.

Indonesia perched the fourth place with a total of 98 medals (31 golds, 24 silvers, and 43 bronzes) at 2018 Asian Games. The sports that failed to meet the target were bridge and canoeing. The bridge was expected to gain two gold medals, but it bagged four bronzes, while canoeing collected three silvers and two bronzes from previously targetted to get one gold medals.
