TEMPO.CO, Malang - Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park center said 263 hotspots burned down the Mount Bromo area, East Java, from Saturday to Monday, September 1-3.
The Head of Bromo National Park Center, John Kenedie, said that the fire quickly spread and based on the latest report, of the 263 hotspots, currently, only three hotspots left. “The number of hotspots reached 263. Then it reduced to 18, then to eight, and now only three points left,” he said.

John said his office would try to immediately extinguish the remaining three hotspots. The burned area reached 65 hectares with the most extensive fire occurred in the savanna area measuring 30 hectares. The supervision will be increased so that similar incident will not occur again.
“The incident must have happened at night. The initial hotspot did not originated from tourist locations,” John said.
The Mount Bromo tourist area with the altitude of 2,329 meters above sea level was temporarily closed since Saturday, September 1, due to the fire.
A total of 320 joint personnel were deployed to extinguish forest and savanna fires in Mount Bromo, including TNBTS officers, National Police, National Army, Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Perhutani, and tourism services located around the fire location.
