TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian revealed that the police who was shot in Cirebon is strongly suspected to be a retaliation attempt by a member of the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD).
“We have uncovered the motive, it is thought to be a reprisal,” said Tito at the Bhayangkara Hospital in East Jakarta today, August 31.
According to Tito, the suspect ‘R’ had conducted retaliation after his in-law parents were previously nabbed by the police’s anti-terror force Densus 88.
R (24) is a resident of North Kanggraksan, Cirebon. According to the area’s community leader (RW) Mayko Anwar, the suspect is indeed one of his people.
“He is the son-in-law of AS which was arrested by Densus 88 at the Harjamukti District back in July,” said Anwar on Sunday, August 26. He explained that R works as a daily street food vendor often seen stationed at the Cirebon City PGC area.
Furthermore, Tito Karnavian said that R is currently still on the run. Police have mobilized 100 personnel to hunt down the suspect who was last seen receiving medical treatment at the Salawi Hospital in Cirebon. The suspect claimed to be a member of the national police (Polri) during his stay at the hospital.
