400 Engineers to Assist House Repair for Lombok Quake Victims

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said the house repair for the Lombok earthquake victims will be carried out starting on Saturday, September 1.

“The government sends 400 Civil Servants Candidates (CPNS) young engineers to assist the community to build around 74,000 earthquake resistant houses to replace damaged houses on Lombok Island,” President Jokowi said via his official Twitter account on August 29.

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) stated that young engineers of the 2017 CPNS will be departed gradually starting on Thursday, August 30 by using TNI’s Hercules aircraft.

The president gave Rp50 million to each family head whose house was severely damaged by the Lombok earthquake.

“The recruitment for 135 facilitators is ongoing,” said the Head of the Information Data Center and Public Relations of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho on Wednesday, August 29.

BNPB verified 32,129 of 83,392 housing units damaged by the 7,0 Richter scale earthquake since August 29. BNPB has distributed assistance amounting to Rp250 billion for house repair in Lombok and requested additional budgets to the Ministry of Finance.
