Logistic Aid and Medics Sent for Lombok Earthquake Victims

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Maritime Work Health Center (BKKP), Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Ministry of Transportation, sends the medical personnel and logistic aid in the form of medicines, Muslim women’s prayer dresses, sarongs, milk and educational toys for children of the Lombok earthquake victims, from 18 to 21 August.
Head of BKKP of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, Hesti Ekawati, said that the BKKP’s medical team consisted of doctors, nurses and paramedics, was sent directly to locations that needed the medical assistance such as in the area of Pemenang, North Lombok, East Lombok, Central Lombok and other locations.
“We sent 4 medical personnel led by a doctor Alfian Husin, 2 nurses and 1 paramedic, who went directly to provide assistance to the locations needed,” she said, Tuesday, August 1.
Hesti said the BKKP also cooperated with the Floating Hospital Post which was established by the Airlangga University Alumni Association or IKA-UA in the Bangsal Port.
“The BKKP medical team is working together on medical treatment efforts and the provision of assistance that is channeled through the Floating Hospital Post which is under the coordination of the Class III Pemenang Port Operator Unit,” she said.
According to her, in an emergency situation like this, it takes a lot of doctors to deal with the earthquake victims, especially on last Sunday night, Lombok was rocked again by the 6,9 Richter Scale earthquake.
“Most of the victims suffered injuries and broken bones due to rubbles, and many of them were attacked by diarrhea and upper respiratory tract infections or ARI,” she said.
Hesti hopes that the assistance provided by BKKP can help the residents who are the Lombok earthquake victims, especially for children who received educational toys, can be an entertainment for those who need the trauma healing.
