TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Since being ignited in India and then arrived in Indonesia, the 2018 Asian Games torch relay has passed 18 Provinces and more than 60 cities in Indonesia.

During the 2018 Asian Games torch relay, many tourist destinations and historical areas were passed. Here are four of them:

1. Bung Karno’s Tomb, Blitar

On July 23, the torch arrived in Blitar City. Bung Karno’s tomb complex has a large gate and there is a joglo-shaped tomb roof inside, known as Astana Mulyo.

Inside the complex, there are museum and library facilities, most of which display photos of the life of Sang Putra Fajar, including meetings with a number of heads of state. This complex was built in 1978. Besides Bung Karno, his parents also were buried here.

2. Bung Karno’s House of Exile, Simalungun

The Asian Games torch arrived in Simalungun, North Sumatra, on Tuesday, July 31. The eternal fire taken from India was put at Bung Karno’s exile house in Parapat, Lake Toba.

This place was chosen because the Proclamator was exiled here with Sjahrir and Agus Salim in 1948 for approximately two months.

3. Japanese Hole, Bukittingi

The Asian Games torch arrived at the Japanese Hole tunnel in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, on Thursday, August 2. It was built by Japanese soldiers in 1942.

In here, there are a number of special rooms, including reconnaissance rooms, ambush rooms, prisons, and armory. It began to be managed as a historical tourist attraction in 1984, by the Bukittinggi Administration.

4. Bogor Palace

The Asian Games torch arrived at Bogor Palace, Tuesday, August 14. It was built in 1744, in the colonial era named Buitenzorg or Sans Souci, which means “without concern”. From 1870 to 1942, it became the official residence of 38 Dutch Governor-General and one British Governor-General.

In 1950, it was used by the Indonesian government and in 1968, it was officially opened for public visits. There is Balai Kirti Indonesian Presidential Museum. It has 280 collections from Indonesian Presidents.

By passing through these historical places, the 2018 Asian Games torch relay is expected to have a positive impact on local tourism.
