TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), which conducted the Global Livability Index survey, revealed that Hong Kong has excelled Singapore as the most livable city in the world, Hong Kong was only 0.1 percent above Singapore.

The result of the survey is a revival for Hong Kong after 2015 was shrouded in tension by a movement called the Umbrella Revolution. It is an opportunity for Singapore to replace Hong Kong’s position at that time.

Hong Kong is ranked 34th as the world’s most comfortable city in 2018. While Singapore is ranked 35th, it has gone up two places compared to before.

The EIU poll result found that Vienna-Austria is the most comfortable city to live in the world, followed by Melbourne-Australia and Osaka-Japan. London-England is surprisingly ranked 48th.

Quoted from the channelnewsasia.com on Wednesday, August 15, Vienna-Austria was named as the most livable city in the world because it has the greenest open space, including the lake. The public transportation also very cheap and efficient, the crime rate in Vienna is also very low.

“One of the most excellent sub-categories in Vienna is the level of crime that is quite low so this proves Vienna as one of the safest cities in the world,” said Roxana Slavcheva, Editor of EIU.

The EIU survey revealed the 140th rank as the most comfortable city to inhabit is Damascus-Syria. It followed by Dhaka-Bangladesh and Lagos-Nigeria. The EIU survey did not include the most dangerous cities in the world, such as Baghdad-Iraq and Kabul-Afghanistan.
