Lombok Quake: Jokowi Leaves for Lombok, Monitors Refugee Areas

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has left for West Nusa Tenggara to monitor the refugee camps that were established following the magnitude 7 earthquake that hit Lombok in August 5.
Jokowi departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta at 13:20 Western Indonesia Time (WIB). He landed at the Lombok International Airport at 16:08 Central Indonesia Time (WITA) and continued his journey to the North Lombok regency with the Air Force’s super puma helicopter.

The location was deemed to be the most affected area. “The president is monitoring the community kitchens at refugees camps, trauma healing centers, and the field hospital,” said Bey Machmudin, the head of the State Palace's press bureau in a press release.
During his visit, Jokowi will also handover numerous humanitarian aids to the survivors of the devastating earthquake. The president is scheduled to stay overnight at the area and will spend the night in a tent with other refugees.

President Jokowi is accompanied by the Public Housing and Public Works Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, Head of the President’s Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono, President’s Military Secretary Rear Marshal Trisno Hendardi, and several other presidential staffers.
