TEMPO.CO, Banjarnegara - Unlike the coffee cafes in general, Ari Susanto, the initiator of Backpacker Coffee, held his stall with a cart. A variety of roasted coffee beans were displayed on the simple cart.

“I conceptualized this stall to be very simple and mobile like a backpacker,” Ari said when met at the Arjuna Temple complex, Dieng, Banjarnegara, Central Java, Saturday, August 4.

The Backpacker Coffee became one of the stalls that enliven the 2018 Dieng Culture Festival (DCF) on August 3-5 at the Arjuna Temple complex. Its presence was quite striking and highlighted by the visitors because the owner of the shop, Ari, provided a drinking room in the form of a dome tent for his guests.

Ari apparently enjoyed two things: coffee and outdoor activities. So, the coffee stall stands like someone who likes traveling and drinking coffee anywhere. Uniquely, he provided special coffee from Temanggung and Wonosobo areas only.

“I pursue various kinds of coffee from Temanggung and Wonosobo. The two regions are close together, but have different coffee characters,” Ari said. He argues that the taste of coffee from Wonosobo is generally lighter. Whereas the coffee from Temanggung usually has a stronger flavor or bold.

Ari provides Temanggung coffee in the form of Sindoro and Sumbing Arabica with the honey process. While Wonosobo coffee, he has a choice of Wonosobo Siwadas Arabica coffee beans from the slopes of Mount Bisma.

Not only Arabica, there is also robusta coffee from Kandangan that grows in the Besing area. This coffee is planted at the altitude between 800-1000 masl. Despite having a more bitter character than Arabica, robusta is still recognized to have a lot of enthusiasts.

The visitors who want to try out the coffee made by Ari can choose the method of brewing. For example, with the French press, V60, or collapsed. They also can freely consult about coffee and learn how to brew.

A cup of Backpacker Coffee is sold cheaply. Each cup is only sold at Rp10,000. Certainly, it is much cheaper than the coffee in fancy cafes. While sipping the coffee, the visitors can enjoy the Dieng landscape surrounded by the natural grasses.
