TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Through its official government website, the Singapore Foreign Affairs Ministry extended its condolences to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on the earthquake that struck Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on August 5.
The press statement, which included letters by President Halimah Yacob and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, was published at https://www1.mfa.gov.sg on Monday, August 6.

In their letters, both leaders conveyed Singapore’s offers to assist Indonesia with its relief efforts following the disaster, based on the priorities as stated by Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the earthquake which struck Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on 5 August 2018, claiming many innocent lives and causing significant damage. On behalf of the people of Singapore, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families, and wish the injured a quick recovery,” said President Halimah Yacob in the official letter issued today.

Separately, the Singapore government will make a contribution of US$100,000 as seed money to kick start the public fundraising appeal by the Singapore Red Cross.
“Singapore offers our assistance in the relief efforts organised by Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency. Our thoughts are with Indonesia and its people during this difficult time,” said Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong on Monday, August 6.
