TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The residents who live around the Kemayoran Athlete’s Guesthouse claim that the Sentiong River, known as Kali Item (Black River, due to the color and smell), no longer smells. They hope that the Jakarta Administration will consistently keep the river that way after the Asian Games.
“Now, the river smells no longer,” said Inal (27), at Jalan Sunter Jaya 1, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, Saturday, August 4.
On Friday, August 3, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan accompanied by the Vice President Jusuf Kalla, eat bananas on the river bank to prove Anies` claims.
“The river aren`t smelly anymore, the smelly ones are now on social media, not from the river,” said Anies Baswedan.
Anies Baswedan has covered the part of the river’s surface to block the strong odor that could disturb the athletes that will be staying at Kemayoran Athlete’s Guesthouse during the Asian Games from August 18 to September 2.
