Police Arrest Leader of Debt Forgiveness Cult UN Swissindo

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police apprehended Soegiharto Notonegoro, the leader of debt forgiveness cult United Nation Swissindo Trust International Orbit, simply known as the UN Swissindo.
“Yes, we apprehended him,” said Grand Commissioner Daniel Tahi Mohang Silitonga in a text message Tempo received on Thursday, August 2. Soegiharto is currently being questioned at Police’s mobile brigade (Brimob) headquarters.
The UN Swissindo has been in operations since 2010 and was established to erase people’s debt worldwide. Its headquarters is located in Cirebon, West Java.
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) issued a public warning on June 20, 2016, against what the cult is promising to the public. The cult is even deemed to have no permits to conduct any form of debt cleaning.
In the same year, OJK together with Satgas Waspada Investigasi stated that the UN Swissindo has participated in activities that violate the law. An investigation was declared against the cult and forced them to drop any of their activities against loan repayment mechanism.
