TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At the end of quarter II of 2018, state-owned lender Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) and its subsidiaries recorded a net profit of Rp14.93 billion, reflecting a growth of 11 percent year-on-year (YoY).

BRI president director Suprajarto said the profit was generated from the credit lending, which was increased to double digits and above the average growth of Indonesian banking industry.

“Until the end of Q II 2018, BRI has channeled credit up to Rp794.3 trillion or raise 15.5 percent when compared to that of last year at Rp687.9 trillion,” said Suprajarto during a press conference at BRI central office, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 31.

Based on the data published by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), he added, the profit was above the credit growth of national banks on average as of June 2018, at 10.7 percent. In addition, the profit gaining was booked amidst the recent challenging condition of the economy.

The positive portfolio followed BRI records in Q1 2018 which grew 11.4 percent to Rp7.42 trillion YoY. At the time, BRI distributed credit worth Rp757.68 trillion, rose 11.2 percent when compared to the same period of last year at Rp681.27 trillion.

Suprapjapto said the credit composition was quite satisfactory because it was dominated by the micro, and small enterprises or SMEs. Its credit lending reached Rp602.7 trillion or 75.9 percent of BRI total credit.

The composition was larger than the credit of non-SMEs that worth Rp191.5 trillion or 24.1 percent. “Bank BRI maintain its commitment to empowering SMEs to 80 percent of BRI total credits,” Suprajarto added.
